ANSIBLE

AnsibleMOO Programming Team

Programmer Policy

Please read and be sure you understand this policy before asking about a programmer bit.
  1. Being a programmer is a privilege, not a right, and progbits may be revoked at any time for any reason deemed appropriate by the head of the prog team.
  2. Do not write programs that are overly wasteful of resources, or spammy. If are unsure whether code you have written counts as wasteful, ask the prog head.
  3. Respect the privacy of the players on the MOO. Just because your progbit gives you the ability to view readable properties on other players, it does not mean you have the right to do so.
  4. Players requesting a progbit will need to first pass a programming test on FooMOO, a non-themed programming-oriented MOO located at foomoo.org port 4500. For more information about the test or FooMOO, contact dive, the head of the programming team and admin of FooMOO.
  5. To request a prog test, send a mail to *requests. Include your level of experience with MOOcode, if any, and you will be contacted regarding the test.
  6. Learning MOOcode is your own responsibility. Do not expect anyone to teach you. You can ask questions on the prog channel of AnsibleMOO or FooMOO. Note that you might need to wait for an answer, as there isn't always someone active. If you can't find help in either place, send a mail to the builder's list, *bl, on Ansible.
  7. Launchies will not be made programmers. The programming team head may decide to make an exception in the case of returning programmers, but generally you should get into an army before worrying about getting a progbit.
  8. See 'help quota-policy' for information on quota increases.
  9. Do not create any OOC objects or programs that perform OOC actions without first getting permission from the head of the programming team.
  10. Consult with the head of the programming team before starting a large project, to make sure it is appropriate for the MOO and hasn't been worked on already, so that your work is not wasted.
  11. Do not ask to be made a wizard. Any such requests will be ignored. If you need some code you have written to run with wizard perms, contact the prog team head about it.
  12. It is highly recommended, but not required, that programmers subscribe to the builders mailing list. To do this, send a message (through email, not MOOmail) to majordomo@ansible.org with no subject as 'subscribe builders' (without the ''s) as the body of the message. This will help keep you up to date on current projects on the MOO, as well as providing a source for help. *Builders-List (object #1484) on the MOO is a mirror of this list.
