Launchie Promotion

When are launchies promoted to armies?

Eligible launchies are promoted every Sunday. To be eligible, you must be in the oldest launch group (generally 8 days and older) and complete your Launch Reqs. Contact a staffer from the appropriate team (the Mentors and RPStaff) when you wish to have your requirements checked.

@reqs : To display a record of which launch requirements you have completed. If it is empty, you need to ask a Mentor or RPStaffer to look over your work.

@launches : To list the launch groups, including their promotion dates.

@info : To show a condensed version of your character info, including your current launch group.

@teams : To list the members of RP Staff and Mentor Staff, as well as other teams.

What are the Launch Requirements?

There are four launch requirements to complete prior to your promotion date. The requirements do not take long to complete, no more than a couple hours spread out over your week or two as a launchie. The requirements are as follows:
  1. Player Info and Description [Mentor approved]
Your character needs to be fully-detailed in Description and PInfo. Telling us about your character's background, personality, and description ensures you have a good grasp of who your character is. The entries for description and personality must be at least three lines in length, and your background should be at least five. This is the minimum required for credit.

Click here for important guidelines on writing your pinfo and description, and for the list of commands to set them.

  2. Journal Entries [Mentor approved]
You must complete three entries in your desk-journal. This gets you thinking about what your character does each day, and about how he or she thinks. Each entry should be at least five lines in length and must be written In Character, as though your character was writing them. (If you do not think your character would keep a journal, write up three short assignments you believe your character would be given in classes.)

use desk : To write journal entries, use your desk. Choose option "6) Journal Options" from your desk's main menu.

  3. Launch Test [Mentor approved]
Contact a Mentor Staffer when you are ready to take the Launch Test. The questions require an understanding of basic RP concepts and the IC environment. (At this time there are six questions.) Note: We strongly suggest that all launchies attend a RP Class before taking their Launch Test.
  4. Opinion [Mentor approved]
This is a test of a different kind. All you have to do is RP. The Mentor Staff will find chances to RP with you and evaluate your ability to RP. Basic RP requires attention to IC environment, character, grammar, and spelling. The Mentor Staff will try to coach you until you're ready for an army.

What happens if I am not ready on my promotion day?

Launchies who are not ready on the sunday of their promotion are moved from their current launch to Launch D. (Their former launch must be emptied in time for the next week's launchies to be placed there.) Now don't be concerned, it is not uncommon for launchies to take more time to be promoted than the bare minimum. So, if you are placed in Launch D, you are free to roleplay that your character is a late bloomer and has been held back for a couple weeks, or, on the other hand, to conveniently ignore that your launch has changed and just roleplay as normal. Note however: Players that do not connect to Ansible for 30 consecutive days may be deleted at any time.
