ANSIBLE

An Example of a "Good Plot *Idea"
(based on a situation from Ender's Game)

My character (Ender Wiggin) will be faced with a choice soon after he is promoted to an army (Salamander army, perhaps). On the day of his transfer his commander will be (to put it mildly) upset that a young and untrained soldier such as Ender has been promoted to his army and he believes that Ender will disrupt his battle plans. Bonzo's army has been moving up the standings recently, and Ender is not a welcome addition to the army--an argument begins, and Bonzo asserts that he will get rid of Ender at his first opportunity. Though Petra (the sharpshooter in the army) takes Ender under her wing, Ender is obviously not happy in his new army.

Five days later there is a battle against Condor army. Moments before the battleroom entrance goes clear, Bonzo gives Ender the order to enter the battleroom four minutes late, to stay near the entrance, and to not even shoot his gun. Ender obeys these orders but, as he can see from the corridor after the battle begins, Salamander is not doing very well. After the four minutes are up he'll enter the battleroom his legs will be shot almost immediately, but his arms remain unfrozen. The enemy does not realize he isn't yet disabled because he has not been firing. As the battle nears its conclusion Ender realizes that Condor army only has the minimum five soldiers required for victory. So Ender must make a choice:

a) He could follow orders and not fire his weapon. -- I'm not sure what would happen then, but his commander will probably be mad no matter what. Some of his armymates might be upset that Ender didn't disobey in order to get them a draw. Ender might become angry for a while and he may vow to not listen to Bonzo's stupid orders again.

b) Ender could fire his weapon and disable a Condor, thus ensuring a draw. -- If he does that he would have disobeyed orders and his commander probably would not be happy about that, and about being proved wrong. But maybe Bonzo will not be as angry that he at least got a draw out of it, and that Ender will seem more valuable and easier to trade.

c) Ender could fire at the Condors, but he doesn't disable enough to get a draw. -- This would be the worst for Ender, because he disobeyed orders and proved Bonzo right about him. Ender would likely take this very hard, and he would become discouraged, but I think he would eventually bounce back after practicing with his launchie friends. But Bonzo might not be able to trade Ender at all.

There's my plot idea. Please let me know what you think! - Thanks!
